About the Food Bank of Waterloo Region: The cost of living has never been higher and, as a result, people are struggling to make ends meet. This means people are turning to food banks and community programs and services for help.The Food Bank and the Cambridge Food Bank are at the centre of the Community Food Assistance Network, a system of 120 + community programs and agency partners working together to provide access to food and other supports and services to people in need throughout Waterloo region. These organizations include emergency hampers, nutritional outreach, community meals, and shelter and residential services and focus on helping people learn about healthy eating, budgeting, food preparation, and more. The Food Bank acquires, coordinates, and distributes fresh, frozen, and non-perishable food across the Network - about 6.2 million pounds each year. In turn, the Network serves more than 40,000 people in our community with 35 per cent of people under the age of 18. Tournament proceeds will make sure that The Food Bank of Waterloo Region can continue to support the Community Food Assistance Network so people in our community have access to programs when they need them.
