Our History

1929

Course is designed by Stanley Thompson and construction begins. The original layout includes 6,440 yards playing to a par of 71, and course construction costs totalling $49,679.73.

1931

Westmount Golf & Country Club opens its greens to members. Bill Bricker is the first Club Captain, Cammy Seagram the first Club Champion, and David Croal the first professional.

The first official Board of Directors: President - H.M. Snyder. Vice President - T.W. Seagram. Secretary - Fred W. Snyder. Directors - Reinhold A. Lang, A.W. Augustine, R.M. Macfarlane.

1932

Edward Seagram serves as club president. He and his brother Tom become instrumental in carrying the club through the Great Depression.

1946

Westmount’s membership reaches its maximum capacity, and a waiting list is established for those wishing to join the club.

1952

Westmount's Ladies Bridge Committee forms - they organize 21 weekly bridge games.

1957

Westmount holds the Canadian Open. George Bayer wins, setting a course record of 64.

1962

The pro shop burns down.

1963

Curling becomes a sport at Westmount.

1964

The club reaches a total of 861 members, including 274 curlers.

1965

Westmount hosts the Canadian Ladies’ Open & Closed Championship.

1968

The Westmount Oktoberfest Pro-Am is created.

The halfway house is built.

1969

Westmount hosts the annual Canadian Amateur Golf Championship.

1975

The club’s crest is updated to include curling and tennis, to reflect all three sports.

1977

Westmount introduces hard-court tennis to the club.

1979

Judy Ellis, a member of Westmount, becomes Golf Ontario’s Women’s Amateur provincial champion.

1981

Westmount hosts the Labatt’s International Golf Classic for the CPGA.

Westmount Golf & Country Club celebrates its 50th anniversary.

1982

Golf Digest ranks Westmount among the top 20 courses in the country.

1990

The club hosts the duMaurier Classic and Canadian Pacific Women's Open for the LPGA.

1994

Westmount celebrates the 25th anniversary of their Oktoberfest Charity Tournament.

1995

Cathy Hurd becomes the first female president at Westmount.

1999

The tennis chalet and deck undergo renovations. The courts are switched from hard courts to Har-Tru.

2005

The Oktoberfest Charity Pro-Am is recognized for raising a cumulative $900,000 over the course of its history.

2009

Westmount hosts the Canadian Junior Boys Championship.

2015

Westmount undertakes a major renovation to the clubhouse, including the spike room, founders room and entrance to the club.

2017

Pickleball is added to the club.

The halfway house is renovated.
